New Jersey Togging
 

Went out on a beautiful December morning to go togging off of LBI. Ran into our very own Stoney while I was fishing.

It was not great fishing but we ended up catching many shorts, along with our share of keepers up to 9 pounds. Notice the one eyed 8 pounder that I am holding.

At the risk of sounding like dimb a*s what is a Tog?

Matt,

Tog are also known as Blackfish. They have similar teeth to your Sheephead. Tog live around structure and love to steal your bait/tag you into their snags.

Up north it is the football of fishing, in that it can be a game of inches.

I was out togging Sat too at SandyHook Reef.Plenty of shorts but it sure was a beautiful day.

Hey Pete,did you have a Seacraft named "Just Released" at Leonardo State Marina last year?

My previous SeaCraft was named Just Released. I did keep her in hurricane row at Leonardo Marina in in 2005' and 2006'.

Just got too snotty there sometimes, so I used a slip over in Keansburg for the current SeaCraft the past 2 years.

Since we have a house down by Barnegat inlet I have the boat down there for the remainder of the year. Generally, speaking we don't get as much togging fishing pressure as we do up north (although yesterday there were times that I felt that I was at Sandy Hook Reef.)

Tog taste very good. Sometimes referred to as the poormans lobster.
