Can you tell me
 

What is the basic difference between say a 1970/1980/2000 hull, is it design, construction, fit & finish ? Which is better and why? Thanks in advance.

I own a 81 23'cc, to be honest I've never seen a potter built from the 70's or Moesly. I am however impressed with the stoutness of everything on my boat. I've seen the tracker era boats of the late 80's and can't tell the difference. Probably the weight would be lot lighter and the overall fit/finish isn't quite what I've noticed on mine. I don't know what the max. hp rating on the trackers is but they must have felt pretty confident in hanging a 500 hp max. on mine. Saw the pic's of the newer ones at Miami boat show and they look like a whole different animal and along with it a price tag that is so far out of my reach except if I'm lucky enough to get 6 numbers and the powerball.

I look at the Seacraft Line the same way I look at Corvettes.

There is no such thing as a bad Corvette/Seacraft...some are just better than others. ;)

I go a little beyond that. I have yet to see any boat that is faithful to the Moesly hull design that is a bad hull. That includes Sailfish, Albin, Palm Beach, etcetera. (I especially like the Albin with the turbo diesel motor under the center console)

To paraphrase, "They're all good. There is no such thing as a bad Corvette/Seacraft/VDH hull...some are just better than others."

Construction may have changed, but so did layouts, and a lot of people might prefer the later styles. I figure the older the boat, the more problems you're inheriting. Take your time and find a really great old hull with a transom that has been professionally replaced and raised or plan on doing it yourself. The very early boats have little usable storage with the tank above deck under the console. Brand new, the old ones may have been better in some ways but they're all projects by now.
