Looking at a Sea Craft 20 CC
 

Hey guys,
I am looking at getting into a Sea Craft for all of the obvious reasons found on this site... wanted to get some opinions on a boat I found.

Sea Craft 20

I dont like buying from dealers, but I recognize that I might have to. Wanted to know if anyone in the Tampa area recognized this boat. Dealer says everything is in good condition. Owner was a flats fisher, hence the jack plate. Some softs spots on the deck around the console. Nimini and bow dodger included. Also, a trailer is included at this price too. No compression on engine yet. getting that today, and I will be going to take a look at it next Saturday. I am not so hot on the price, or I am not so hot on the dealer fees that bring the price to close to $5K. Can anyone tell by looking at it whether this is a SF or MA? Any thoughts on the boat/engine?

Welcome Dan- That is a 20SF and should be built well. Not Potter built, but same exact hull and excellent reputation in that era. Price is not way out of line. Nice trailer from pics.

Thanks for the welcome and input. Yeah the trailer in the pics is a nice aluminum one. The one that will be included is a tandem galvanized one though.

from the pics, one concern I have is the bottome paint. It is painted above the scuppers in the transom. As a self bailing deck, this wouldnt seem right. Does anyone else's 20 sit with the scuppers below the water line?

They don't call em sinkcraft's for nothing! The decks in my 20 are barely above the water line when no one is in the boat. I have the thru floor scuppers and I have to plug them as soon as I jump in. That bottom paint line might be a little high but not much..

Been a problem since their inseption, some people raise the decks, others put plugs in the scupper holes, get lighter women, or don't carry as much beer, most of the time in the redo they raise the decks, to h--- with less beer!!

I read somewhere on this forum to cross the drains to the opposite side. In theory it should work as long as you weigh one side down at a time - low side drains to the high side thus keeping water out. My '83 20SF is set up just like yours, I'm trying the above. I'm just about to relaunch it after a long layout - I'll let you know how it works.

Dan ,I spoke with the dealer ,and he said nothing about dealer fees.I could have bought that boat for 3,500.00 including the trailer, dealer fees are a bullshit way to try and jackup the price.This is not a new boat what are the fees for

Thanks for the info. I won't be concerned about the scuppers then... And I guess I will have to recruit skinny girls!

Hey, I drove all the way from Miami to look at that boat after the dealer told me it was a solid boat and motor. I wouldn't even bother if I were you. The motor, a '98, is a ball of corrosion, half the deck is not just soft but broken, and to top it off there's a nice little bruise with glass damage on the port side rubrail. RUN AWAY!

I looked at another 20' in the Tampa area and the owner must be on that good Tampa crack. $2500 no trailer included junker ready for the landfill. At this rate I should sell him my sunken 20' for $3500.
Best one I've seen was right around the corner from my house in Miami. If you look at the Miami Craigslist you'll see it for $3,800. Yellow, original gelcoat, floors redone ages ago. Old evinrude looper. It's old, but fairly original, trailer kept and seems solid. No affiliation...just passing it along.

Wow. Who was the salesman? Kent? He told me "it is worth the drive to check out" and "if I saw it I would leave with it."

I am headed down that way to look at another boat or two that I have lined up, so I won'y be wasting too much of a trip. Thanks for the heads up. I will be sure to lay on a ration of my own crap with the dealer too then.
