225 Suzuki 4S adequete power for 23 CC?

I've crashed around in the archives and found a bit of info but still looking for "the bottom line" on this question. I'm looking at adding a 23 CC to the fleet. It's a Potter era 23 that has a floatation bracketed 225 Suzuki 4S on it. There is a bit of feedback that this might be underpowered a bit. I won't be running with heavy loads a whole lot, mostly running with a couple guys inside of 15 miles to fish. Has anybody run this power on their rig to provide a little feedback on performance?

Thanks,

I am running a 225 Honda (w/o a bracket), on my transom. I have a 1989 SeaCraft 23 WA and I feel the power is more than adequate, as I am not a speed demon and 30 MPH in our water here in the Puget Sound plenty fast as there are times we have a lot of junk in the water.
I have had it up to 44 MPH @ WOT, but you really pay the price in fuel consumption.

It's the same displacement as the 250. Only the 225 doesn't have Variable Valve Timing.

I have a 78 23 cc with a bracket and a 2000 Suz. 225 . The motor works great on the boat . top speed is around 42 to 45 mph . My only downside is in rough water it won't stay on plane at slower speeds. I think a hydofoil would help my situation like some posters on the site have suggested .
Go Hurricanes !!!

The new Suzi 4s spins a much larger prop which should help with low speed planing also.

Thanks Guys,

Great information and moves me a lot closer to getting it done. On the way to the bank now and then hopefully on the road next week to take her for a spin. This'll get me 3/4 of the way to the Four Boat Theory. Sweet!!!

Well, looks like it isn't going to happen. The owner won't let me do a sea trial, bring in a surveyor, or haul it 20 miles to a tech to plug it in for a scan. Looks like a great boat but I learned my lesson on my 20' CC with transom and power issues.

One once bitten but still bummed out dude here...

he must not want to sell the boat... or he's hiding something :D. Anyone that isnt buying a project boat will want to do all of those things.
