25 Seafari

Found this on Craigslist and when I went to look at her, she followed me home. Engine's blown, windshield's gone, and the gelcoat above the shear line is toast, but she's structurally sound. Trailer's in pretty good shape, too. Second Seacraft in the fleet, first Potter. My 20 SF is just too small for those offshore trips.

With a repower and rewire she'd be minimally seaworthy, but I have a longer list of modifications I want to make. At a minimum, I want to put a windshield on and put the helm back in the original configuration.

It looks like the windhsield is the same as the 23 sceptre, if it is I have one you can have for the balance of what I owe the guy ($60.) The boat is located in Pasco County. I believe the only section that is not glass is the very center that swings out, looks like plexi. You would need to remove from the boat.

The Seafari 25 windshield is similar to the later model 20' Seafari, only bigger. No center walk-thru like the Sceptre; both sides open out to provide great ventilation, which is a big deal in Florida! I'd keep it like the original, with the opening feature, even if you have to make one from scratch out of wood.

Thanks for the comments. It will be a while before I can do anything with her that requires $$. Replacement vehicle for the wife has to come first. In the meantime, I'll be tinkering a little and kicking around some ideas.

I agree with Denny. The ventilation is important even on the hot day in Canada... :D...JK we get a few.
The top of the Seafari 25 windshield is about 6' off the floor so unless you're Shak, You need the ventilating windshield.

Good luck with the project Blue Heron. I'd be happy to take any measurements or help out if I can. Judging by the floor around the engine hatch, yours may have been set up with twins originally.

Brandon

BTW good idea going with original helm. You wan't to have as much weight forward as possible

The early SeaCraft 27' Flybridge model had the same type of setup of engine box on a removable hatch.

See the post at 27' SeaCraft 1968 Fly Bridge Post #39159

Only 3 of these flybridge models were made with single big-block V8/TRS power from the factory, and they got the same engine box as the twin 250 ci motors.

Notice the deck lines are very like the 20' and 25' Seafari.

This is my favorite Seacraft model. The Royal Bahamas Defense Force has used one of these 1969 27' models as a drug interdiction patrol boat since 1983. (It is still in use, but in 1994, it was converted from twin sterndrives to twin transom-mount 275 hp OMC V8 outboards, and then repowered to twin Yamaha 300 hpdi in '02.)
