Working on my recently purchased 23 seacraft. May have seen it on line goes by the name Gone Fishin Too. Great boat. Trying to figure out how to build in some nice fly rod storage Any suggestions would be appreciated

I have see some nice work with PVC. You take a 10 length and then cut out some gaps to hang the reels. mount under gunnels. I think there are pics somewhere on line (reel time maybe? SOL? I forget where). That is my plan.

I have also seen the "in rod holder" fly rod holder inserts (for regular rod holders or rocket launchers), but I think those are temporary.

What rods you got?

I'm trying to figure out how to myself for my 18.

I made some for a 20 sf I purchased recently. I wanted to keep them as light and simple as possible. The functional spec had 4 points: protect the rod tips while running into a steep chop; hold the rods firmly in place; quick in and out; adaptable to different rods/reels on different days.

The design I settled on has the rod tips forward and the rods angled slightly up. The rod tips slide into two 18 inch foam tubes positioned like over&under shotgun barrels forward under the gunwale. The mid-portion of the rods ride in open 1/4" phenolic rack fastened to the mid-ship gunwale brace. The handle and reels are supported in an aft rack which is simply a 14" X 14" piece of phenolic (weight bearing on deck, siliconed to interior topside) with a whole bunch of 3/8' holes drilled at an up-slant angle. These holes support pegs which support the rod handle/reel. I can move the pegs around to adapt to fit everything from a 6wt to a 15wt with a Pacific. Both the mid-ship and aft support stations have a bungee to an open upper hook to clamp the rods inward. Total material cost $18

When I get around to figuring out pix, I can do this with a lot fewer words.

Yo Mark, I just inherited my brother's flyfishing (and flytying) equipment and really need an experienced teacher to learn the sport, are you anywhere near Miami?
