1973 Seafari has left the Keys
The 1973 Seafari(outboard version) left its Plantation Key home where it has been berthed since it's purchase by my wife's uncle. I completely rebuilt the Seminole trailer that came with it and towed it to Georgia for restoration. The boat is totally original and I'd like to keep it as close to OEM as possible. Does anyone know where I can find the OEM instrument panel and glove box doors with the OEM graphics? I will also be reworking the teak trim to include the louvered door. All overhead carpeting in the cuddy will need to be removed and replaced. I'm not sure that the numerous small blisters (pinky finngertip size) are going to be reworked because the boat never was bottom painted. The fuel tank will be removed and cleaned internally and a new fuel/water separator installed. There is a weak area under the deck mounted fish cooler/seat that will require attention. All stainless u-bolts on transom and bow are unservicible. I need new hardware for the forward deck hatch/vent. I also need the glazing for the tempered glass windshields and tinted Plexiglas for the sides. This is just for starters. The transom is sound as is the rest of the hull. Any tips and sources would be appreciated. I'm the boat's second owner.

Re: 1973 Seafari has left the Keys
Congratulations on your acquisition.
Is the windshield tempered glass or laminated safety glass? I would be a little hesitant to use tempered. When it breaks, thousands of little sharp kernels of glass will litter the deck. Not a good thing when on the boat in flip flops, or any other shoes for that matter. I'll be using laminated glass when I build the windshield for my 25 Seafari. BTW, if you find the hardware for the front hatch, let me know where you found it. I need it for mine too. Dave |
Re: 1973 Seafari has left the Keys
I need help finding te gasket material that holds in both the windshield and the plexiglas side windows. I'm looking for the original grey rubber gasket material. Spoke with Ft Lauderdale Marine that is the OEM sub for the original windshield and they on longer carry grey material.

I believe its Amrerican marine located in florida they manufactured and still have all the materials. I actually think the original gaskets are black yours are probably just old dried and sun weathered. Check some other post i believe its American Marine

The teak louvered door is out being reworked and I'm going with white 3/8" starboard for the new insrument panel. I'm considering laminating it with teak to blend in with the other teak on the boat. The red hull buffed out very nicely using 3M fine cut and Maguires chalk remover. I'm still looking for the grey gasket striping for the glass and plixiglas. I'm still looking for the marine gree 3/8" plexiglas for the side windows. The forward hatch stanchons are going to be hard to replace. I'm looking for a wiring diagram for the Seafari 20 outboard to beting a complete rewire job. I have on soft spot under the bait cooler that will need to be shored up. I'm hoping to get the water pressure switch adjusted on the Nissan 140hp OB so that the motor will have full rpm. I complete rebuilt the Seminole OEM trailer prior to leaving Florida last winter. The original 3/4" plywood in the seatpan has been removed and I'll soon install the new wood and use the original fiberglas cover to reseal the wood as was the original seat. The bolsters will have to be reconstructed from stratch. I got the original measurements off the old one prior to tossing them. That's the update on the "Rowe Boat" for now.

As for the wiring, 12V systems are fairly simple; you can do a search on this site for some good reference books and sources of supplies. I found it helpful to put a big conduit up behind the stbd side coaming with a loop of chord running thru it that I could use to pull all the wires thru. Run the engine harness first as it will be the biggest. I also set up a separate common ground buss in back of boat for stern light, bilge pump & trim tab pump, and then another ground buss behind IP for all the stuff up front. Good luck with the restore - sounds like you're making great progress! Show us some pictures! Denny |
