Yep,a ground wire to a negative is required. At least it was, when I did mine. The gauge works like a charm

so it sounds like all i need is the red/pink hooked up from the sending unit to the gauge and a NEG to the other terminal on the sending unit correct?

You need two wires going to the sender. A +pos and a -neg. Then go to the gauge and hook pos to sender post on gauge and neg to neg post on gauge. The gauge will also need a power supply and ground. :D

Probably an illumination terminal also. Connect that to ignition "on" wire. Mine's purple in the Johnson wire harness.

i got it fixed i guess the tank needed to be bonded to the NEG bar.. just finished today rewireing EVERYTHING! all new wire, heat shrink connections, new breakers and switches. time consumeing but i feel a lot more comfortable after seeing some of the wireing in that boat... WTF? prolly hand 300 ft of wire just there not doin nothing and some of it was hot...

Hey Dilli,

Congrats on "Gettin 'er Dun!" You must feel pretty proud of yourself and a lot more confident knowing what you learned in the process. Nice job.
