1970 20SF Flotation

I'm new to all this. I am told my 1970 20SF has no flotation in it. I can see that there is none under the deck. I am somewhat bothers by the fact that it may not stay afloat if swamped. Is there a way to put flotation in under the gunnels that will keep it upright and on the surface? Someone told me under the deck is no good because the flotation gets wet over time and ends up water logged. Anyone done this before?

My 20sf had some foam under the deck not a whole lot but it was there.

Most of the guys on this board stuff pool noodles under the deck for added flotation. You can get them at Target.

That is a pretty quick and easy solution...is that what you did on your 20?

Terry- Unfortunately I seldom take the easy approach. I filled the stringers with foam and poured foam in between them.

As far as wet foam goes..... you only get into trouble when there is no where for water to escape such as boxed in fuel tanks etc.. If you leave an escape route for water to flow into the bilge then foam will not trap water. The foam in my boat was almost 40 years old and it was not water logged. There was water up to the bottom of the deck for over a year as I observed my boat prior to purchase.

After looking at the not so easy approach I think I will go around to the beach every night and pick up all the noodles laying around. :D :D
