20SF with a 150 ETEC numbers
 

I just re-powered my 20SF with a 150 ETEC. Several of you PM’ed me asking about the performance numbers. I had it out yesterday and took some notes. I used the numbers from my BRP tach, my Flo-scan fuel flow meter, and my GPS.

These numbers at WOT are better than the Yami 175 carb I had on it at cruise. I am tickled pink. It was just me with a normal fishing load and a full fuel tank. The ETEC pushed double oil for the first five hours of operation, so the double oil is there. Numbers may change after that break-in period. The ETEC has a 19 inch Viper prop that the dealer propped out for me when he installed the engine. I also have the engine mounted on a Porta-bracket. There are significant variances in numbers based on the position of the bracket (up or down). These numbers were taken at what I consider a normal running setting for the bracket – sort of mid-range. I have very mixed feelings about the bracket. It was on the boat when I bough it and I had visions of removing it a redoing the transom – still do. However – I can’t be without the boat for that long – I suffer from a lack of fishing syndrome that doctors say is only cured by being in a boat and fishing.

Great numbers! Best economy I've seen with my carbed Johnson is about 2 mpg!! You could do much better than that Viper prop. No stern lift. Maybe discuss that with your dealer while that vipers unscared. BPR Renegade 4 blade lifts the whole boat. Mercury Revolution 4 picks up the stern; might be a good choice with that bracket.

Actually, the Viper jumps out of the water! I was surprised - like a bass boat!

The Viper is actually the old OMC RAKER propeller revisited, with greater rake progression, more efficient cupping geometry, and more aggressive initial angle of attack on each leading edge. It's a pretty good propeller, but not really a sternlifter. It's more of a bow-lifter, with slightly increased rake progression to provide more whole-hull lift.

Not what you want when the going gets ROUGH. From my experience, the bow would not stay down even with tabs.
