Re: Scamper

Not likely a SeaCraft. Maybe an old Glastron or something. 14' Length, year 1961 and outboard power don't fit the profile, nor does the high windshield and tailfins! According to Carla's web site the first 15' Scampi was built in 1966 and all were sterndrives.

Good call Rich and Denny. Deck has a ridge down the center not on the Scampi. It got my attention too........

Re: Scamper

That boat really looks like a 1961 or '62 14' Owens "Rocket". Not many made, the tailfins were supposedly inspired by the 1959/1960 Plymouths.
It was the smallest boat "made" by Owens of Baltimore, which mostly made wood cruisers.
(Owens actually contracted the manufacture of their early fiberglass boats from other companies)

Compare the front deck shape to this 1970 Owens 15' "VisserDuck" http://www.boatdesign.net/forums/att...erduck-141.jpg

and this 1960 Owens 16' "Spindrift". Note this one has the beginnings of tailfins.

Re: Scamper

There DOES appear to be a family resemblance to the Owens boats! However the tailfins remind me of the 55-56 Pontiacs!

Re: Scamper

did you guys see the last line in the listing- "heres a pic of a boat that is simaler to the style and waaaay nicer" so that is a different boat. And, who knows, could be a Scampi that was switched over to OB. More than likely another "not a seacraft" seacraft though.

Re: Scamper

I really think if some one should find one of these boats it will be in the Miami area.

Remember only a few were made, and on a trailer they could be sitting in the back of someones garage or yard and not take up any space.

When going on CL the Miami listings are the hotpots for Seacraft.
