I don't know what your panel is made of, but on my '76 inboard 23 it was some sort of wood grain looking composite. I tried everything penetrol, teak oil, varnish, ect. The teak oil looked fine when wet but... The varnish was good but the thought of taking the whole thing apart to re-finish it bothered me. So I used a wood grain vinyl. A local sign guy I use covered the panel and it looks great.

Great idea!! I had the same wood looking composite panels too. I ended up going plexi-glass.
