Need assistance with electronics

Just purchased a '76 Scepter 23, all electronics( radar, ff & chartplotter/sounder) are outdated/useless by 5-8 years min..
What should I be looking for in these items( manufacturers ) for trolling the Narragansett Bay and coastal waters of RI & SE, MA. Which goes to my other post about transducers. * less money spent 1st yr. the better

rinube,
well you can lok at it two ways spend all the money now and trick it out or if the electronics work run it for now see how you use it and go from there i've never had updated electronics until this boat and i have a raymarine c80 combo now and find it fits what i do and how i use it
for the most part the area is covered with papercharts well and i used to ony have a ff to confirm depth and a compass now i fell like i rely on my gps more than i should
so that said run this year and see what you would want to improve on
by the way i'm also in portsmouth and would love to see the boat
good luck,
matt

Re: Need assistance with electronics

I have a Lowrance X98 without a ducer, it is a dual frequency with the max power which didn't work well for me as I'm a flats guy usually, just too much power. It would take any ducer you wanted at that point, you could choose, I would take 100 for it. I used it with a transom but the thru hull sounds interesting, Lowrance has all 3 available - transom -thru hull - or through hull, although those are expensive, power would certainly not be the problem, they still don't make anything with more than 500 watts.
