23' seacraft,2001, why raise the floor?

I am new to the forum and seacraft, why and when did they recomend raising the floors on the 23' cc. I am looking at a 2001 with 225 4 stroke, what should I look for? They are asking $25,000.

Where are you getting that information? IMO - The only seacraft that really benefits from a taller floor is the older 20's.

Raising the deck would be for an older boat from the 70s and 80s . A basspro seacraft should not have an issue because of the higher transom and higher floor to offset the newer heavier motors. The earlier boats floor and transom were low causing water to creep in the scuppers when people were in the back of the boat. Test for your self when the boat is in the water with 2-3 people in a back corner of the boat some water may come in , but it shouldnt be a lot
As far as what to look for, if youre familiar with boats check the normal stuff, inspect that everything is in working order around the whole vessel, check for any loose fittings, console is not loose, same with ttop. Look through all hatches and inspection plates check all bilge and livewell pumps are operable. Also the motor should reach its max rpm, tilt and trim works etc.
I would reccomend spending a couple of bucks for an hull and engine survey, done at the same time as the seatrial, so you have a solid feel of wht the boat will need. Being a 9 year old vessel she will need something attented to. Also a survey may be required if you are financing. I hope this helps! and good luck!

The 23's don't need floor raising, just a re-config of the scuppers

IMHO, a survey is almost sure to turn up some defects as to condition, repair/replacements soon needed, etc. With these comments from a third disinterested party with some authority on the matter, you (the buyer) now have the seller negotiating two against one. Don't beat the seller up, but at least get your cost of the survey. If it is to be surveyed for fianancing reasons, so much the better. The seller wants to sell and probably sooner than later. If the bank is likely to reject the selling price due to condition, the seller has potentially lost a buyer and is likely to loose the next "financing" buyer at that price. His number of interested and "CAPABLE" buyers shrink significantly, thus a longer time to a sale.

Bottom line, the surveyor is the buyer's friend in the transaction! Just my opinion.

Good luck.

thank you for the information. I have purchased many boats so i understand a survey is very important. I was more interested in the potential problems with a Seacraft.

Thanks' jdr
