Is there any technical reason that Awlgrip is better for a boat than regular Imron?

Imron is better for a boat but its very expensive. I've sprayed both of them Imron comes out alot better and lasts alot longer it can be polished up easier. They use Imron on everything expensive car restorations airplanes. Dupont makes it so its good stuff. Awlgrip was just specifically made for the marine industry its nothing special as they say not to use it below the water line. I just sprayed my boat with awlgrip as it was the best price economically and everyone knows the name awlgrip. Alexseal makes some great paint too better than awlgrip i'm hearing.

People go back and forth, for a short while Sterling too...I personally like regular old awlgrip not the 2000, It chips to easy IMO.

So what are people using below the waterline? I'm planning on trailering my boat most of the time but may have it in the water for a couple of days here and there. Has anyone used Interlux or Pettit?

A few days in the water is not going to hurt awlgrip.

Signature Finish is the only urethane that I know of that will hold up below the waterline. I left a sample of it in salt water for a little over a month with zero problems, other than some marine growth which scrubbed off pretty easily. I posted some stuff on it a week or so ago. I like it because it doesn't chip and is easy to apply AND repair.

Thanks for the replies. I will be painting my transom and sides as one of the final phases of my repower. my friend is a car painter and offered to do it for me but he had never worked with Awlgrip but has done Imron many times.

If you have an auto painter that will do Imron Do it!!!! You will be much happier with the Imron than Awlgrip. If I had the money I would do Imron on every boat I did.

Sorry, I can't add anything except to ask other forum members for comments. My '74 23' Tsunami has been stripped down to essentially nothing but glass and will be ready to paint in a few weeks. There were so many holes my wife jokingly refers to it as the "Holy Boat". 2 part spray polyurethane is my choice, and I too am interested in spray paints with which members have positive experiences. With all the time and effort in the prep work, I sure don't want to screw things up now. The boat will live on a lift on a salt water sound, so the environment can't be much harsher.
