23cc Rear Baitwell
Does anyone use the rear baitwell in the 23SF? I am trying to figure out whether or not to seal it off.

Re: 23cc Rear Baitwell
No Sir, I sure don't. When I re-did my transom I installed a shelf against the forward wall of the baitwell to mount my 2-stroke oil tank on (Mercury), moved it from the center console. I then cut a 4" access hole with a watertight cover above the filler and sealed the old hinged cover so it would not leak into the old baitwell. Used closed foam strips and screwed the cover down. To make sure I had no standing water in the old baitwell I drilled a drain hole in the bottom so if I did get a small amount of water, like from splashing over the transom it would drain into the bilge. The old baitwell the 23'er is not the best design, however I am using the space for something else. If I had had the extra money a full transom and Hermco bracket would be there and the old baitwell would not be an issue.

Re: 23cc Rear Baitwell
I've been thinking about a ballast bag just to make sure it does'nt hold water and it still could be used if needed.

Re: 23cc Rear Baitwell
I use mine but like Donv said it's not the best design but it works. I am planning on redoing it sometime in the future by changing the pump,re-plumbing and re-coating the inside.

Re: 23cc Rear Baitwell
I permanately enclosed the baitwell on my 23 Sceptre. Was going to eliminate it but by friend who has a 23 said Potter said it was needed to structurally support the deck. On the 23 cc I bought from Wavelength, Hermco elimated it and put in a fresh water tank. I like this setup. I would elimate it and use the space for better use.

Re: 23cc Rear Baitwell
I removed mine and made one, moved it forward to where the newer 23 footers have theirs. Works well and better distributes the weight in the boat.

Re: 23cc Rear Baitwell
I put a drain plug in the bottom of the livewell
right in the middle of the channel that runs into the drain pump when I need the livewell just put in the plug when not in use remove plug and water will drain into the bilge I keep the boat in a rack, so the boat plug is alway out when in the rack when the livewell gets some water in it without the water draining it does get scummy I really want to remove it,seal it with a good hatch, and use the space for bilge access and a place to put all of the pumps |
Re: 23cc Rear Baitwell
I had mine set up but with the new stand alone units out there and the amount of room back there I would do that now. That thing is so big you can't catch a the last doz pinfish out it - kinda like a marine aquarium LOL
