Battery Chargers
Just a question, Hopefully someone knows an answer to. I have an older Bomar battery charger in like new shape. It charges great, and when it's done, goes into a "float mode" where the amp needle bounces around from 0-5 or so. The voltage ouptut is still 13.4 volts. I was concerned this would overcharge batteries so I looked at new chargers. They seem to do the same thing go into a "float mode" with an ouput still of 13.4 volts. Is the voltage continualy feeding into the battery at 13.4 harmful and will it cause overcharging or is it the amperage that is harmful to batteries therefore making my charger ok to still use?

Re: Battery Chargers
I just installed a Deltran charger. Check out their website, there's a lot of good info.

Re: Battery Chargers
I added a promariner prosport 3 stage charger last summer, and 2 AGM's honkers from Sears(odyssey brand). Nocomplaints. At same time I as well added a BEP battery switch cluster which has a built in VSR, so i can charge both batts isolated while running. No more of that 1 or 2 thing or gasp parallel)and it prioritizes the engine batt first. Very happy.

Re: Battery Chargers
I use a 2 -4 -6 amp charger that just cuts off when fully charged, has an LED gauge. I have had others that do that and didn't think it was an issue but 5 amps is a pretty good charge.
