Armstrong Bracket installation
 

I am in the process of installing an Older Armstrong bracket with wings and a 175 Suzuki 4 stroke onto a classic 20. I had the 175 on a hydraulic jack plate on a redone master angler and the weight was too much for the boat. Rear scuppers would take on water unless plugged. My wife liked the classic layout better than the MA, so being the dutiful husband I am, I am switching the motor to a redone classic. I have covered the previous post and thanks much to Seaplusplus for his info. Any experience with these brackets and installation would be appreciated. This is my 5th seacraft. I have had two 23's and three 20's. I used to fish a 23 out of panama city up to 70 miles offshore for billfish. Will try to figure out how to post some pics of the progress. I don't think those old brackets provide any flotation. So my guess, is you going to have even bigger problems with water on the floor as before.

I have an older Armstrong from before they offered a swim platform and it is definitely a flotation bracket.

I got same engine, similar bracket. It provides some flotation, not a huge amount, but enough to keep me self bailing w/ 2 people, any more than that and water is coming in the scuppers (which was fine by fine for 2 years of running the boat, if more than 2 people I'd just plug em and unplug them while on plane to drain).

I have hopefully resolved this issue by sealing the scupper holes and moving my scuppers to drain through the transom covered by the ping pong ball style blockers.

I unfortunately didn't take any pictures while mounting the bracket (quite busy during mounting :D ) but good luck with it!

I have a Armstrong on my 23'. The original directions from them say measure 20" or 25" (depending on what your motor shaft is) from the center line on transom. Then it is one inch up per foot from that set back from transom to back of bracket. Probably 2 inches. Hope that helps.

Some of the first armstrong brackets had no floatation but the one I have has a lot. Also my hull has had the floor scuppers eliminated and replaced with scuppers at floor level coming out of the transom. The 80 gallon tank has been moved as far forward as the hull will allow and the console is moved up. All this should give me a lot more balance than I had with the Master Angler.
