seacraft savage 1978-repower

Going to repower my new to me seacraft 23 savage inboard. currently has a small block v-8. What would be the best engine/manufacture to place in this hull?

What type of small block is in there now?

Ford/Chevy. What kind of transmission?

Are you running in fresh or salt?

Repower with the same thing, unless money is not a consideration. Modern GM 5.7L small blocks can easily make 300-350 hp without undue stress on the motor. Most old ones are 260-270 hp, but that's 40 year-old technology.

You can get a crate long-block motor 350/300 hp for $2300 from Advanced Marine

I think a base crate motor 350/310 hp is about $4.2K and a drop-in complete crate motor for a 350/310 hp is about $5.2K

Ditto FF. Just make sure you have closed water cooling. It is worth the extra $$.

By getting the same thing you already have will save you big bucks.

It is mho that when re powering you should at least have the tranny checked out. Worst case scenario is have it rebuild and then you are good to go.
