Lenghtened their Sea Craft? We have all done our share of floors and hatches and transoms, but has anyone lenghtend one. I'm thinking about adding 4 feet to my Seavette. I took out the I/O and added a full width fiberglass bracket( same one that the new Silverhawks use). This change gave me more room in the back of the boat. Then I was thinking of moving the cabin ahead to get about a foot more space in the cockpit. This move would cause me to loose a foot in the cabin, mainly in the lounge area of the Vette. I was ok with this but still wanted more lenght on the back of the boat. See, I love the look of the Vette but I feel it needs more after the windshield to realy make the boat look good. My plans for the boat to make it a family boat that can make the run offshore to fish also. This is the reason for the larger cockpit.

Just the other day my good friends over at Silverhawk called and said that someone had left a 23 Sceptre in their driveway on the ground. They wanted to know If I wanted anything from it before they cut it up. Well the gears started turning and out came the tape measure. The last 4 feet of a 23 stays the same, except for the shearline. So why not cut it 1 foot up from the stern and add a 4 foot section to it and then dress the shearline from behind the windshield to the transom. Brace the underside of the hull with 6x6 to hold the running surface true, then drop in the section and glass it in over lapping glass out. Mold in 4 stringers. Fair and glass in the outside and build the gunnel section to match.... any thoughts.. I have 2 weeks off comming up real soon and all the parts, just need more beer...

Every one has caught that bug some worse than others.

I have thought of this idea a couple of times and also thought of making a full bracket that is like the Contenders and SeaVee stern which are about a 4 inch step up that goes from port to starboard all intergraded in to the hull. I kind like the idea but didn’t like the amount of work and beer it would take to complete the job. That would be a major project that could turn out bad so I passed on it.

I figure that if a Hermco bracket can’t do it then it’s time to move up 6 feet or more to keep the desire in check for a decade or so.

I have convinced myself that not only would I need more stern footage I would also need a bigger beamed boat to accomplish what I’m really looking for.
If I’m wrong please don’t correct me. I would rather live with my poor logic then spend the money to change the ride.

That first Make job is like what I was thinking about.

If you do it send lots of pictures so I will be totally jealous.

I post up a few pics of the old girl as she is now with the stern lift complete. The Silverhawk bracket is really cool. Its a VDH bracket and it fits the hull perfect.

I'm working now at Silverton Yachts here in NJ and we build the Luhrs boat here now too. My shop now does all the rails and towers for the two lines. We have a two week shut down comming up and there are guys in the glass room looking to make a few bucks during the shut down. So if all goes well it will be done in a few days :eek: :cool: and I'll never see any resin or glass on my fingers

I've been wondering the similar thing , just if there have been any lengthened plug-boats that anyone knew of. Can't wait for an update.

There was a member years ago, Noakbill, I think who stretched a 23 Seacraft to 27 or so widened it as well. Not sure if it was ever completed of the like but it has been done a few times.
