performance numbers for 18 and 20 secraft with 150

Guys,

What kind of performance numbers are you getting running 150hp motor on 18 and 20 open fisherman hulls. I am interested in cruising and top speed.

Thank you,

My parents Pre-Tracker 1987 18SF when it had a 1994 150 Johnson Ocean Runner did 47 @ WOT. A few of observations:

Weight of that boat is more than Potter or Tracker 18's due to materials and glass thickness

The 1987 boat was barely self bailing with the 150 with the original deck height and weight distribution

My 1989 Tracker 18SF that I sold was a lighter boat (plenty strong) and had the batteries under the console with a 358 lb 130 Yamaha.

Those 2 18SFs sat totally different in the water due to weights. I am more prone to less weight than to more power because of the differences in ride quality. That being said, those 2 configurations would be great. By the way.....my parents kept that 150 prop after the motor took a dump, and now they are selling it because they are moving this month. PM me if you are interested.

Guys,

Thank you for the info. I do not have one yet but in process of doing my research to figure out what is the optimum power for 18 hull.

Thank you,

I believe the optimum current motors for those hulls would be the Etec 130, and the Optimax 125. Both about 375 lbs and plenty of guts to get you low 40s WOT and 4-5 mpg @ 28-30 mph cruise.

The Smokin' motor would be a mid-late 80s Merc 175hp 2.4L weighing in at about 360lbs

My 75 20SF with a 2003 Yamaha 150 and T-top will run 48 mph at WOT with a half-tank fuel and family of four.

my '75 18' will run 51 by gps. that's a 2005 yami 150 carb motor on a Hermco bracket. it's pretty loose at wot since i still don't have any tabs on it.

I used to run a Mercury XR4 2.0L 150 carb'd model on my Seafari. It would get a GPS measured 46.5 knots (53-54 mph) on a good cold day with the top down and just me in it. Loaded up with 4 adults, fishing gear and full fuel dropped it to 41-42 knots at WOT. Cruise with that motor was best at 25-28 mph, which is just slightly more than I cruise now with my 90 hp Optimax

Another 20' SeaCraft owner locally is running a 250 Yamaha HPDI on a Porta-bracket. He claims well over 60 mph at WOT, but I don't remember just how fast at the moment.
