Stripers Hurry Up

I'm getting tired of togging, croakers, bluefish. The only striped ones I've seen won't take my swimmers or poppers, they're to busy gorging on mullet. Not long now but not soon enough. Just had to vent.

how do you get so excited of a fish, that's covered in lesions, has no fight-kinda like reeling in a boot, and it contains so many pcb's i wouldn't eat it on a bet ?
i am facinated by this, guys go absolutley insane of these fish,to the point they actually head out in terrible conditions-we're talking 25-+ kt winds, big seas ?? why ??

i don't striper fish,no way ! if we're not running offshore,i'm wreck fishing...

I do love fishing for them , don't go insane for them.. Guess the same way you get excited about running 50-120 off or fishing a wreck.

I love bass fishing, but after this summer it is getting hard to switch back from chasing tuna, but of course the weather has been making that easier as of late...

I miss the southerly fishing and following the fish in general. But that's me just remembering the good. One of the most boring things to me was flying kites all day. Chunking or trolling some days is not so fun either. The long run offshore from south jersey can suck sometimes. 55 miles from here to offshore and you may need to to run double that to see a frigate bird, 55 miles from pompano and I'm clearing customs in the Bahamas. The guys in a lot of locales laugh at how long most of us spend running to fish, someone buy me a place in Kona and a 37' Merritt.

truth is,in our area,we have some world class offshore fishing-big bluefin like we get around here-not available in florida-just a few short weeks ago, there was an epic white marlin bite.
last season we never had a bluefin under 60"-we had a day when we used an entire spool of 60lb floro-that's how many fish we caught...all that action was within 40nm of cape may inlet...
on the west coast, those guys would cut their arms off to have the run to the tuna fish we have...

Re: Stripers Hurry Up

The fishing was very good this year, I hopped a big boat a few times, 2 out of 3 trips was worth it. Even the trips that were worth it we covered to much ground running and not fishing but hey we had to. Cape May is a much better run sometimes than where I'm at depending on where and what type of fish are holding. Cape May is also our nicest inlet in NJ IMO, and the ability to shoot the canal and fish the Delaware is a bonus. Bassing the last couple seasons has been good as well. I wouldn't go as far to say our fishing as a whole is world class for most species let alone pelagics. I think the guys north and south of us might have something to say about that. Fished the bluefin from the Bahamas, Carolinas, Montauk, Gloucester, its not bad here but... We all love where we fish whether it's tops or not I for one don't have much of a choice anymore. If I did I wouldn't want to run from Ventnor all the time.
