50 hp 1972 Johnson

Anybody ever have one these engines or somewhere there abouts in years. I have one on a 13 Whaler I just got and it does not have spark. Cant imagine both coils are shot, doesn't look to have a power pack that im used to seeing, perhaps stator? Seems like a pretty simple little guy. Let me know what you think. Thanks

Magneto, coils, points, and condenser. You should be able to find a manual. Try the marine doctor. Sure it `s not a 40hp?

I used to have a 50 on a 17 foot whaler. I also used to have a manual for it. I never throw anything out (just ask my wife)so I'll look for it. Either way it should be easy to find one for it. Try one of those used book stores online.

If I remember correctly there was a stator and unless it sank it should be fine. I would look at the points to be the problem, especially if neither plug has spark.

Is the Whaler a '72? That would mean it is a short shaft 50 - and that would be pretty cool and fast......

Yeah have been looking for a manuel online and found a couple. The whaler is a 68 but yes it is a short shaft. Should be pretty fast i hope! Probably not 50 horse at the prop though, which some very nice wonderful person stole. And that really irritates me.
