Need help repairing windshield
 

I did something stupid and cracked a chunk out of my low profile windshield on my 20ft SF. I think its Lexan (its a dark tinted plastic). Is there a good epoxy/resin that I can use to repair this (or other technique)? I tried guerrilla glue but it didn't hold properly.

Look for IPS #40. Its a 2-part acrylic adhesive.

Stuff they use for aquariums.

They have several size tubes probably $3-5
for the small one. Trick is going to be getting the gorilla glue off for a fine fit. A good stripper or lacquer thinner might help break it (gorilla glue) down but see what it does to the lexan first.

If you can't get a good fit, IPS also makes a thickened product.

And if that doesn't work, there's a company still making the SC windshields. I don't have the link handy, but it's here. I had a crack in mine and used the gel crazy glue. Holding fine. Good luck!

I would use IPS Weldon # 3 or 4.

It's designed for acrylic, sets up fast and works.
You will also need a fine point applicator as the stuff runs easily.

Thanks for all the input. I think this will end up being a winter project for me but let you know how it all turns out.

After the glue sets up, make sure you take a very small drill and 'end the crack' Basically the crack can't grow longer/larger if it dead ends at a drilled hole, again a tiny one is fine.

Its an old trick welders use with different metals. I did the same with my windshield.

Mitchman, not sure if there is a good commercial plastics shop like Ridout near you but I think you can get it from these guys online. Consider which of these best fits you application. If you call the 800 # they might even give some advice. Also ask if there is a quick test to determine if your windshield is acrylic (that would be my guess) or a polycarbonate (Lexan)? For example ammonia will dissolve acrylic making the windshield cloudy...

Once you know what the windshield made of, say acrylic as opposed to a polycarbonate like Lexan, then go ahead and order your glue. I'm not sure if Lexan can be glued but if so, it will call for a different adhesive but they would have that on the website also.
