Yamaha questions

2003 Yamaha 130 2S: Can you replace the lower unit seals on the prop and drive shafts without pulling the shaft housings out of the gear case casting, and are special tools required to remove and replace the seal? Winterized the engine last week and the lower unit oil looks like coffee "light"!
Sorry if this is a double post (for sale section!)

Re: Yamaha questions

It could also be leaking at the seal below the water pump . I replaced it and the bearings in the same location on my 200 and its been fine since.

Re: Yamaha questions

You replaced the needle bearing and the seals on the drive shaft, without removing the housing for the bearings, correct?
Did you need or use any special tools to remove and replace the oil seals?

Re: Yamaha questions

Its been a few years but looking at the book I beleive I had to remove the bearing housing. Dont remember needing any special tools.

bbh57,

Thanks for the information. I have the factory manual and have to agree with you that the housing should be removed.
