Approx. Weight of 1979 20 Master Angler
 

Could someone estimate the weight of my MA, large consul, 20" rebuilt transom, 1999 Johnson 175 2S, 68 gallon fuel tank, and aluminum dual axle (springs), trailer without brakes.

In 1996, I towed her home from Tampa to Hilton Head Island with a 1987 Toyota 4X4 pickup so I know its not all that heavy. Just curious. Purchasing a new tow vehicle and guessing well under 5000 pounds, and closer to 4. Thanks. Vezo, Part II.

Part II,
I kind of doubt you are under 3k. Definitely under 5k but probably somewhere between 3k and 4k lbs.

1600 dry
400 motor
800 alum trailer
fuel @ 7 lb/ga
batteries, anchor/chain, gear, tackle, refreshments, tools, rigging, etc. It adds up pretty quickly.

Bushwacker recently sent me and some others a tally of towed weight on his Seafari (loaded for distance travel) and came in about 4600lbs including trailer. Granted you're probably don't typically carry as much gear but can carry 2x the fuel.

I'd definitely consider a true half ton or maybe a 1 generation Tundra as a base line. I know Bigshrimpin trailered his Seafari cross country with a little Jeep pickup but I think he said he was in 3rd gear a lot. I tow my Seafari with a V6 T100 w/5200lb rated tow pack. While it tows just fine, I don't feel it has the the mass, power, or limited slip to do the job safely... I don't even bother trying to move the 21 with it... I'm presently looking for a new tow rig, too. 2nd gen Tundras sure look appealing but kind of out of my $ range. Good luck. :cool:

I had a 2003 Tundra 4 door with my prior 20 Seacraft and it would tow it just fine. I also towed a 23 Boston Whaler open that was much heavier than mine to the keys and it was fine also. When I picked up my current (2012 model)I bought it back from Ft Myers with no engine and I had no issues
I have also used a Ford F150 and it had no problems.
Just remember to that most can tow but stopping is where a too small tow vehicle problems show up. Gas milage?....well whose counting :)

Thanks guys. I have a Ford F150 Raptor on order with the new 6.2. Gas milage at 11 and 13! But now there's information of a new V-6 Turbo Eco-Boost engine with 375 hp and almost 400 foot pounds of torque. But 20+ mpg. And its rated at 11,300 pounds towing capacity. Obviously the Raptor will not tow at that capacity with 13" of rear wheel travel. The 6.2 Boss is just a monster. Thanks for the help. Part II.

I have to say that im not a ford man but the raptor is one sick truck!!!!
I've got friends down in blufton if I vet down there soon would love to see the truck if you get it

Let me know anytime you're in the area. I work 24 hours on and 48 off. Always got time for a beer and a boat ride. Should have the truck by end of January and will be traveling through RI in September to get it on the beach on Race Point! Part, II.
