Trying to determine value of 1979 23' SF OB
 

My friend has a 1979 Sea Craft 23' SF OB configuration. The red gelcoat is pretty much toast. Buff Master nor 400 grit wet sanding will revive...the red is very thin in most areas, nothing to work with. Anyway so the hull finish has to be redone. The deck is real soft on the port side...from stem to stern. This of course leads me to also worry about the transom the 2000 Yamaha 200 OX66 Saltwater Series II is hanging off of. I am connsidering buying the boat but NADA does not show Sea Craft. And of course i need to reconcile the boat's condition with the hull value. (I already have motor and trailer values) Can anyone help me with figuring out a value?

If you know the value of the engine and trailer and think that the hull is probably a major project, I would maybe offer 2k above that not having seen the boat and whatever comes with it. Just my 2 cents.

Rick is probably right about the value of the hull. Replacing the deck is a major renovation. If the transom is bad, that's a pile of work too.

So in addition to asking what the hull is worth, ask yourself if you have the time and skills for a restoration of this magnitude, or the cash to pay someone else to do the work. Unless it's going to be a labor of love, you may not want to get involved. Return on investment will be in the negative numbers cash-wise, so the return has to be enjoyment of the boat, or pride in the restoration.

Yup but still not an antidote. This guy is going to buy that hull and do the work in his garage. After that post, I bet he's hooked!

It's a lot of work, but it's a great hull and worth the time.
