Ken-It all is making sense now.........Mercury program was from 59-63, and Carl left aviation and began building SeaCrafts powered by MERCURY around that time. Coincidence?? I think not!

They are retiring Discovery after this mission. It's going to the Smithsonian when they're done.

Are you able to hear the thunder from your house or is it too far away?

When the shuttle takes off the whole house and barn rattle... then you here boom, boom, boom... for 5 minutes!
The 12 X 12 roll up doors on the barn were shakeing like a
hurricane was upon us...
It is an awesome sight. Area 442 is just a mere 18 miles
the way the crow flies to the launch pad... :D

I have a few friends that have been at the KSC with the shuttle program since the beginning and are about to join
the unemployment list!!!

What a government we have now huh?

See ya, Ken

Cool stuff Ken!!! I've been to a couple of launches, however the one I liked best was the first night launch of the shuttle many years ago, to understate it, it's VERY impressive. You can't really properly describe it, you just stand there in awe. What was neat about the night launch was the frogs, gators, crickets, etc. went dead silent just as the rumble and sound hit us and they stayed quiet for at least two minutes after the shuttle was long gone. If you have never been to a launch it's worth going, sadly not too many left.

I was speaking with someone down your way (Miami) yesterday and he said something I had never heard before and I thought you would get it, too. He said, "The business of government is too important to be left to government!"

I thought it was pretty profound!!!

I was able to get over to Titusville and watch the launch as well. This was the second one I've seen this close, first being the launch with John glenn sts-95, that was shuttle discovery too. Only two more left! The traffic was insane, 5 hours back to Tampa!

We got a little rumble here.
About `80 we got passes to the one story building by the pad.
Talk about loud. Very impressive.
