New Guy Here with Master Angler Questions.
 

Hi fellows

I'm a new guy here with a serious problem; the wife wants a lager center console. A few years ago she pointed out a SeaCraft to me but it was too much project for the price. Recently I came across a mid 1980's 20 foot Master Angler. I need some intel on these boats, the problem areas and such. It has a 2000 150Hp Evinrude for power and its priced around $8,000. In the photos it doesn't look to bad and the owner assures me its in nice shape but like I said I need an education before I drive a hundred miles to see a boat.

For what its worth, I've got a 79 MA with 99 Johnson 175. I absolutely love the boat, and hope I never have to part with it. Bought in 1996, with rigged 200 Black Max. Paid 6K, and blew motor first trip out. River tested like a scalded dog, only to find out it had a freshly replaced head gasket. Oops.

1999 rebuilt transom and repowered. Didn't have knowledge of this site back then or I would have raised transom to 25". Live and learn. If you can sea trial, it is so worth the 100 miles in fuel. BUT BRING CASH! You will not come home without it! Best of luck.

Personally, I looked for a master angler. but if you add a leaning post and if it has a huge center console like the early version, then it is not so roomy forward of the CC. Partly because the gunwales/cap is pretty wide. A nice boat, but if walking around room fore to aft is her concern, versus beam and length, then you might want to figure that in.

Is that the boat in NY? I saw it a while back on CL. The hull and trailer sounded good but I think that motor is a "ficht" which may be a concern.

I think there is more space inside the MA vs. the CC. With the MA you get toe room under the gunwals and more room in front of the console due to the reduced size of the front casting deck.

I've had both and prefer the MA because it 'feels' larger than 20' due to the cap.

That is a mid 80's boat and not sure its the same as say for example mine - I don't think so, but not that its bad - just different
