Stain removal?
 

My boat has been out of the water for 3 seasons. I have washed her with Zep bathroom cleaner and a stiff nylon brush. I still have water stains @ the drains, dark coloring on top of the gunnels and tek sealer from the PO. Is there anything that will remove these stains? I would like to get some of the gel coat cracks repaired.

Barkeeper's Friend has always worked well for me.

West Marine has a product called On and Off. I think thats the name it will remove rust and stains from the get coat.

Rust Aid from Lowe's. Just like On Off, but much cheaper.

Yeah, that's what I use. Couldn't remember the name. Except in our area it's carried at Home Depot, Lowes doesn't have it. Put it in a spray bottle and spray it on; rust stains will dissolve. If you spray it, don't inhale the mist.

You can get Muratic (sp) acid from most pool supply stores...a gallon is really cheap and a lot stronger than the Rust Aid IMHO...one of the other super smart guys on here, turned me on to in...might have been Denny or Fr Frank, so no credit to me ps don't leave it on too long on stainless or aluminum.

Snobowl toilet cleaner is what the shamrock guys use. Its a mild acid available in dollar stores.

Cheap and works great.

What Barkeeper has in it and some other products is a small amount of Oxalic acid. It removes rust stains and everything else except heavy grease. Typically used for cedar deck and fence bleaching. You can find it on the internet. I got a 5 gallon bucket several years ago. Mix a couple teaspoons in a sprayer bottle of water, spray your boat wait a few minutes and rinse off. Takes off all stains & grime, everything. A little caustic, don't breath the spray, use rubber gloves rinse everything well. Cleans my boat in a few minutes every year with no work. Will remove some wax also, gets it clean down to bare gel-coat, then re-wax. Hope this helps. I am a new seacraft owner bought, bought a 23 Tsunami project yesterday.

Iron out, Rust Aid & Snow Bowl, anything but Muratic....
Muratic will dull the finish!!!
