gas tank on sea craft

ran out of gas with my 20 ft safari cuddy. just curious. does anybody know how many gallons it holds. i'mm guessing 30 to 35 gal. gage works but like most boats not really accurate. thanks. lucky i have see tow or the cost of running out would be high, being 10 miles from the ramp.

My 72 Seafari O/B version has about 30 gallon tank figure about 27 usable. I usually carry 2 full 6 gallon auxiliary tanks to just in case.

Tow service is my standing birthday present. Good that you had it.

Sounds like its time for a flow meter!

Measure the dimensions of the tank and calculate its volume. Divide by the volume of a gallon (cubic inches) and take 90% of it as the usable tank volume.

'71-'72 Seafari has an OEM 29 gallon tank with 27 gallons useable. Optional 40 gallon was available, and Seafari's which have them are easily identifiable because they have no step-down in the cockpit in front of the cabin door, but the step down is into the cabin itself. The fuel tank is rectangular.

Later '77-'78 Seafari 20' models could be had with a 40 or 70 gallon v-belly tank. I have a friend who has a '77 with the 70 gallon tank. I have also seen a Seafari in the Bahamas with a 15 gallon bow tank mounted below the cabin v-berth.

Like Gillie, with only 27 gallons useable, I carry extra fuel on the deck on long trips offshore, up to 48 gallons extra.

My '72 Seafari O/B has the original tank which holds about 34 gallons usable when completely full. I believe the I/O tank was about 29 gallons. My tank extends back into where the engine compartment would be on the I/O, so it's definitely a little longer than the I/O tank.
