1977 seacraft cc gas tank
 

I have a 1977 seacraft with the same gas tank - now having problems with pump ball going flat after speeding up for a few mins then slowing down . was told problem could be in feeder hose in tank - try to back off from tank - afraid to ruin connector any suggestions

I too was afraid. If the shoulder is welded on the tank, hit it w/ pb blaster,aero kroil , or zep and let it sit. Rock it back and forth and it will let go. I hate those crappy plastic pick ups. make a tubular aluminum one with a notch on the bottom to release gremlins and avoid starvation/boom.
3/8 id min for v6. Is bulb 3/8? Is racor clogged/full? Trace back w vacuum gauge.

I had that problem, my fuel line was failing, replaced it made the problem go away. How old is your fuel line?

I can see threads going into tank and it looks like brass - I sprayed with wd40 and no good - anything else I can use

PB blaster is a better penetrant, or use marvel, I would let it soak for a good period of time and continue to re-apply.
On frozen threads, you can also use a roll pin punch or similar and hit it with a hammer in efforts to loosen the crud holding it shut

Joe, If you are near Chatham stop by my house on 348 Meetinghouse Road , I will let you borrow my can of Kroil, that should do it. My White 27 is in the driveway, my dad is usually around, I am fishing tomorrow.

Kroil is probably the best penetrant commercially available. The small squeeze can is the cheapest and will last a long time. Some of the better hardware stores carry it, or you can order it from Amazon or Eastwood. A friend of mine had a business that overhauled turbochargers and said it was about the only stuff that would work on parts which had seen very high temperatures. We also used it in the jet engine business on fasteners that had seen over 1200F. Zyglo or FPI fluid, used for Florescent Penetrant Inspection on nickle and aluminum alloys also works well because it's designed to penetrate tight cracks, but I suspect it's a lot more expensive and harder to get than Kroil.

I order mine direct from Kroil, ends up costing about 110.00 bucks for a case of 12 with shipping, sometimes they have a sale and it is a little cheaper and you get the bigger cans. I usually split the case with my fishing friends. I have the small can and the spray cans, the stuff works great. I keep a can on my boat at all times. A friend of mine could not loosen the bolts on his trailer, he sprayed them overnight with Kroil and claims he was practically taking them off with his fingers the next day. It will be interesting to see if it helps with the tank fittings. It is supposed to get into one millionth of an inch.

Are you sure that the tank vent is not clogged or the vent hose is not cloogged or kinked,a flattened primer bulb could be a venting issue with the tank.Good luck
