quick question

I read on the homepage of this site that Potter built Seacrafts from 1968-1980. whats the best wat to tell if a 1980 Seacraft cuddy is Potter built or made by the next company that bought seacraft?

Re: quick question

The Hull id number will start with "sec" and the last two numbers are the year.

If it's a Seafari, it was built by either Moesly or Potter, because no one else built that model! They were only built between '69 and 1980, so relatively rare compared to all the CC models. Not sure this chart of Production Numbers is accurate for 1980, as that's the year Potter went out of business.

Re: quick question

so i guess the one im looking at is a sceptre because its a 23' but it doesnt give it a # designation on that chart. or, more likiely, im reading it wrong.
anyways thanks for the info. the reason im asking is because im going to get rid of my 20' 1972 seafari on craigslist because it is going to be too much for me to turn into a CC at this time. im going to take the wise advise of all the folks on here who have done it before or know more about what they are talking about than i do. ive been told to just be patient and wait for a 20'CC that i dont have to modify too much and thats exactly what im going to do. in the mean time, i may purchase a 23' sceptre that im looking at. it is ready to fish/dive and seems to be an ok deal.

Re: quick question

The next buyer was CSY Yachts - they were next door to my dealership in Tampa - Potter was on the Board - very good boats too, no problems but I don't think they built any Sceptre's. Their primary biz was 42' sailboats sent into charter in the islands - they knew how to build boats.

Yes they did. My father's '82 is a CSY.

Newest Sceptre I know of was a special-order '84 model with twin Mercruiser 470 fwc sterndrives, which we delivered new from Waterway Marina in PBG, FL, in early '84. I last saw the boat in 2007, still owned by the original owner (who is by now in his early 80's). The boat is/was in Juno Isles.
