The Crap Some Boat Owners Do...
I understand that because most of these boats are ~ 30 years old, they've had lots of owners who did what they wanted with them. They were entitled to that. But c'mon! Some of these decisions are just plain STOOPID. Like this...
"Let's put holes in the liner so that I can use these 0* flush mount holders!" http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...d/e8082b24.jpg "Let's randomly screw this plastic track in (top and bottom), cover the screw heads with gel coat and cover all of that up with teak trim! Who doesn't love a mystery?!?" http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...d/f4c4287e.jpg "The T-top is shaking. Let's drill a couple quick holes through the aluminum tube, windshield, console and HOLD ISH DOWN with a bolt! GaNgStA!" http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...d/6aaa7d3d.jpg Thanks, Paul :D |
let's use toggle bolts ,attempting to hold the t top down...yep,sometimes owners do really stupid things...

Who knows why people commit such indignitys to such beautiful boats. The clowns that owned my 23 Tsunami before me were real winners.
They actually had wired the boat with plastic electrical boxes meant for household 110 volt. They ran 14/2 Romex cable and standard 110 outlets and had the down riggers and even the bilge pump plugged into the outlets. They thru-bolted pieces of pvc to the gunnels for rod holders. There were over 100 holes in the rear transom cap,and another 50 -75 on the gunwhales. The core on the motor box was rotted,so their fix was to bolt a piece of plywood from an old sign to it, then glue on some vinyl. I think they had stock in JB Weld because the engine(I/O) had a lot of it in several places like the risers and manifolds. There were so many more minor atrocities, but I lost count. These people are not rarities.I see boats in this condition heading out of the docks every day. Who's the comic that says "you can't fix stupid"? he seems to be correct on that issue. |

here's one -
this is a client's boat - he had a fuel odor - i explained to the gentleman - the boat needs a new fuel system,he,as most owners do,doubted that...finally,the boat arrived at my shop - to have the needed repairs completed - check out the fuel tanks...look close... that's not water - the picture with the foam in it - it's a mix of sea water and fuel - that's the port tank cell - the area was soaked in fuel - the hole in the bottom - this tank had 8 holes in it,in total |
