Looks like a lifeform, wipe some bleach on it and see if it starts to disappear. It looks like the rest of the mold growing in the gunnel. The pic reminds me of what mine looked like when I first looked at it.

It looks like it's in the fiberglass, but I could be wrong. I'll give the bleach a try.

If it is underneath (it's hard to tell from pic) press against it to see if it's spongy or delaminated. If it is in bad shape I would personally drill a few small holes through the bottom, say 1/8", 2" apart. Inject some denatured alcohol into the holes multiple times over a couple days with a resin syringe, let it dry out. Take some thinned epoxy, whether it's thinned yourself with styrene or whatever, or just buy Gitrot or a normally thinner epoxy & inject each hole with another syringe. As it runs out the other hole(s) tape them shut. Done until it comes time for major surgery, if that's the only spot. If you have this issue in multiple spots you may want to dig deeper rather than guess what's going on in the parts you can't see. Btw, I don't have any wood right there next to the fill on mine, but it doesn't mean it can't be delaminated, especially if it freezes in the winter.

I'll pick some Gitrot up and give it a whirl. I better make sure I don't mess up and poke more holes with a drill bit. [chuckle]
