Spending the week at St. George Island. My first trip bringing the Seacraft and it has been fun. We started out scalloping in the St. Joe Bay and have been fishing as well.

I never thought of doing a scallop trip this time of year. Looks like you did great! Do you know if good scalloping is available regularly in September?

Scallop season closed September 25, so Will caught the tail end. Normally, it closes September 10, but they extended the season last year and this year to encourage gulf recreational activity in the wake of the Deepwater Horizon spill. If you want to go scalloping next year, give me a shout. The season opens July 1, and we're close to prime scallop country. We find them in the grass flats in 2' - 8' of water, so your freediving skills won't be challenged. But be forewarned; it's a lot more fun to cath 'em than to clean 'em.

Know what you mean about cleaning vs catching. All my scalloping has been in St Joe Bay at the first of the season when they are a lot smaller than wtenglish's. His look a whole lot easier.

If I don't have a Bahamas trip on order, a September scallop trip sounds like a winner.

Thanks for the compliments guys. Blue Heron is correct, we caught the last weekend of the season. I was surprised how many big scallops were still around that late in the year. We got those in 2' -3' of water to the southwest of Black's Island. My advice would be not to necessarily go try to get a limit for everyone on your boat. Drink plenty of cold beverages, enjoy yourself and enjoy less cleaning that way.

The boat's looking sharp. Good to see you out enjoying it after putting all that work into it. I still haven't made it over to the St. Johns for the shrimping. Did you give it a try? Last I heard, a week or two ago, they were still catching them in Green Cove.
