New Engine sugestions for 20 MA
 

I am looking to re-power my 2001 20 MA. Currently it has a 150 mercury EFI which has plenty of power. I want some thing quieter and more fuel efficient. thinking about a 4 stroke or etec. don't need any more power then the old 150 merc

A long warranty would be nice

Any ideas or experiences with the new 4 strokes and etecs - prods and cons

I have a four stroke Yamaha F100 on a 20 foot Master Angler with a hydroshield skeg mounted device, plus a kicker. I am happy and get awesome economy. To the point that I have a 20 gallon tank, not a 45 gallon tank. With 2 guys in the boat, I get about 5 MPG. With 3 guys in the boat, it is closer to 4 MPG. Top sped is ~33 MPH with two in the boat, 31 with 3 guys in the boat. With the the hydroshield, the trim is great, even with a 4 stroke and a 4 stroke kicker at 376 and 56 lbs on the transom.

fishstu, I went thru the repower decision process in 2006 after thinking about it for several years. If you want to PM me with your e-mail address, I can send you a spreadsheet I put together comparing all the motors in the 150 hp class. Denny

150 Etec like Bushwacker, all the same advantages of a 4 stroke and 2 stroke power and you pour a gallon of oil in a tank every 6 months instead of getting dirty.

Which engine did you replace with the etec ?
