1986 20 sf rear deck livewell

I have a question about repairing the gelcoat or fiberglass that lines the inside of my rear deck livewell on my 86 20. the livewell still holds water fine but as far as looks it is all chipped up and cracked. does anyone out there know the best way to clean that up and or what material it is made of? i appreciate any help i can get. thank you

I'm pretty sure the inside of that in-deck live well is gellcoat. Here's what I did. I took a dremel tool with a round sanding disk and cleaned up all the rough areas and cracked gellcoat. Then I faired it all out with System Three Quickfair. Then I painted it with Sherwin Williams Tile Clad Epoxy. I just used a mini foam roller to apply the paint. Here's the deal with the Tile Clad epoxy. Its very expensive and only comes in 1 gallon containers. I think it was almost $80 for part A and $80 for part B. If you know a painting contractor he can get it for about half of that. That's what I did. The paint is great. I used it for the inside of all my hatches and bildge in my 20' sf. I also painted my new aluminium gas tank with it. You cant use it for areas where the sun will hit it because the UV rays will start to break it down. The paint will have a little orange peel texture to it but overall it works great for the inside of hatches. I'll get some pictures up later today of how it looks. Good luck.

I think just getting the loose stuff off and any good exopy paint would be fine - Used Pettit 1 part with good results on another boat - ditto the 4" foam roller
