1979 Master Angler 20
2 Attachment(s)
Going to start on my second Seacraft and looking for some general info on this model and what I should look for when making up my to do list. Boat is supposed to be solid so will not tear it all apart unless I find otherwise. Also, what is a good horsepower for this hull. Not looking for speed, just a nice 25+ cruise with a top end near 40.

I have a Yamaha F100 on mine and it is a little slower than that. But 5-6 miles/gallon, and when I raise the motor one hole, I think 35MPH top speed.
Details are here: http://www.classicseacraft.com/commu...6&postcount=28 My outboard will hit the spalshwell door when trimmed all the way up, but some have a door with a hinge in the middle. I am going to put a bulge in my splashwell door when I glass a new one. I was hoping Hermco would make one, but I don't think he does. |

Thanks guys, sounds like I can get away with as small as a 100. Will probably stick with 2 stroke to keep both the weight and cost down. Not really worried about fuel economy as I''ll be using this for short bay trips. I have the Sceptre for the big trips. How is the fuel tank mounted in this model? Figure replacing the tank is a given.

Wahhh, It`s the sound of fun.
The E tec is amazing, but I must disrupt the neighborhood. I love the sound of a smoker at full song. The hand as well. Winnnng. Hold on, GFS |

As for the F100- they are cheap for a used carburated one, have a little bog in the midrange-, but if you clean the strainers in the carbs, they seem reliable. Also lighter than a 130 etec, but not as light as a 90 etec.
The F100 might be available in 25", but I have never seen one. You might be able to get the shaft from a F115 to fit it with a 5" extension from bay manufacturing, but I haven't tried, that costs as much as a used F100. I paid $1000 for a model year 2000. Another one went for $950 on the CL up here- a 2003 with 650 hours. |
Never see any 4 strokes around here for less than $3000. If anyone knows of a reasonably priced 100 to 150 in the mid altlantic area, I appreciate the heads up. Any brand as long as its in decent shape.

I would stay at or above 150 - since fuel is not a great issue EFI 2.5 ( 2mpg) Mercs are reasonable and pretty bullet proof. If you go to 175 to 200 you can keep the RPM down and get to 2.5mpg as the weight doesn't change much. My 200 gives 27/28 cruise @ 3400, at 4000+ the fuel starts to go - the old a bigger motor works less comes into play. A local down here has one that he runs at 4200 and was complaining about 1.5mpg.
IF you can find a 2003 or later BRP Ram or Etec that would be a good choice, not sure what they weigh but my EFI comes in at 406. IMHO do not go below 130 if an etec is in the cards |
What Denny said. I have a 150 1990 carbed merc. on my 20MA, no t-top. She will do about 42-43 top end, easy cruise upper 20's. Fuel burn about a little less than 2mpg. I would probably go with a 115 Etec as my replacement based on the performanc of Skip & Carla's boat. Good performance out of the hole and a reasonable cruise with low fuel burn. I really like the idea of being able to plane at as slow a speed as possible for those offshore days when it kicks up to solid 4 feet with 30+ mile ride home. If I lived on Fla's West coast like Dixon I might want more speed.
