below deck fuel tank need help!
 

i recently removed my below deck fuel tank because it had aquired water in it somehow. Since i already have it out i would like to just replace it to avoid future problems with it. I went and bought a new poly tank from moeller cuz i thought it would fit and it does perfectly but the fill on it is to high. the tank i took out i believe was custom made cuz it was an alluminum one and the fill is welded on but out on like a 45 not straight up off the tank. what tanks are the best? stainless steel or alluminum? or the new poly tanks? is there a way to customize the poly tank i bought in order to make the fill not as tall? i could have a new tank made up for me at work the same exact size as the original i pulled out but should i make it out of alluminum or stainless?? help please

Stainless would be nice........but not in my tax bracket. Serious big bucks. Aluminum, custom made and if you have the option go with the heavier guage. For example, I would go with 16 ga versus 18 ga.

i can get it made out of stainless if i want.... if thats the best option then thats what i would like to go with. i could just take the old tank into work and have them take all the measurements and make a duplicate out of stainless

Thats what I did with my old 23, my friend who has a metal fab business made one out of stainless, put in three baffles. I was not that heavy and worked out great. He preferred stainless over aluminum and if I went stainless he would do it for free, so stainless it was.

stainless sounds like a good idea - but...problems with welds and crevice corrosion is common - aluminum is actually a better choice over stainless...

properly prepped,chemically etch primed and epoxy coated aluminum is gonna last indefinatley,provide the coating and installation is done correctly...

i really wish there was a way to make the fill shorter on this poly tank so i could just slap that in there...but idk maybe i can take the old tank and cut a hole and clean it out very good at work and then weld a patch back on and pressure test it and everything here at work that way i know the tank will be an exact fit and work great
