replace or dont

after removing the old foam for stringer repair is it best to replace or not . and if so whats the best foam t use

I think.......the foam was originally more of a "mold" in which to wrap the fiberglass to make the actual stringer. The fiberglass is the strucural part versus the foam.

The foam was originally used for flotation. I've seen it redone with it or without it. Closed cell should not hold water and most folks do add new foam

Foam

The GEOMETRY of the fiberglass and its thickness is what hives the design its structural integrity.

I would replace it, simply for added flotation. You can buy 2lb density 2 part poly foam online, or spray insulation companies can fill them in for you (they use the same stuff).
