anchor rope hatch cover

Has anyone installed a hatch cover over the anchor rope compartment on the bow of an 18" ? what brand and size did you use ? I priced a 16" x 14" starboard hatch cover from Boat Outfitters and they quoted me almost $300. What are these people thinking ? Do they actually sell any @ that price ?

Oh yeah, I bought 1 for each of my 3 SeaCrafts -- NOT!!!
Clearly they have the best Starboard, stainless hinges and latches in the industry!

Walk away. Make your own, and save $250 ;)

I bought a 4x8' sheet for I think about $160 at a plastic supply house a couple of years ago. I have used it for all sorts of projects: speargun racks, mounts for bus bars, slide in transom splash guard, etc. It is easer to work with than wood. I agree with McGillicuddy, do it yourself and save big time.

Would be very interested in seeing some pictures of your slide in transom splash.

Sidelock, I have since sold the boat I did with the slide in transom splash guard. It was no bid deal, really just a rectangle that slid into two guides in front of the motor to minimize water coming in the back. I have something similar on my 18 now that I made out of wood so I could paint it. I will take a picture on monday and try to post it.
