how NOT to make electrical connection

this is a client's rig:

i'm doing a few upgrades - one is installing a radar set - i was shocked to find what i did...

the electronics were fed power and ground via 2 12g wires - the leads to the vhf,gps and fish finder were just twisted together, and crimped to these wires - no heat shrink, nothing - the vhf ground fell out, when i touched it - very glad the owner was at the shop to see that...

connections should be heat shrink sealed.also, when dealing with a situation like this,it's best to use buss bars, for both power and ground - then atach leads to these...

... and I bet he swore everything worked "as good as new"! NOT!

For a commercial fisherman like myself that actually looks pretty nice. Lmao

What's wrong??? :) All I see is one red wire mixed in with all the black ones. Jeeeez...

As you said....buss bars is the word of the day.

I have come across this type stuff from "installers" more than a few times. I feel I understand "Bird's Nest Electrical systems" better than most as a result. Now I just need time to fix up mine instead of fixing the companies. Spring Break has me busy.

I will leave this one alone. Even though there is plenty of places to go with it.

I rewired my seacraft a couple of years ago. the previous owner had one power lead jumped off the bilge pump on the panel. he then had the radar, radio, recorder and gps all spiced into the one wire that led to the radar, what a mess.
one blown fuse or wire and the whole boat would have been dead.

he had most of the work done at a local boatyard, never checked it or knew to check it. some people should not mess with anything.
