What is the right way to repair a cracked stringer
 

I recently removed my fuel tank and in process of cleaning I found I had a fractured stringer where fuel hose and vent hose run through stringer.

My question is to all. What is the right way to repair this. I was told to sister it with a board and resin and biaxal.

Any help is appreciated

We are going to need a picture or two. SC's have molded all glass and foam stringer boxes (unless you have a real old one) and if you broke one of those boxes you have BIGGER problems.

Depends on what caused the break and how extensive other damage is. Very careful and full inspection can save you a bunch of time, $, and aggravation(personal experience from one who did it wrong the first time).

Mine broke a main stringer at the forward tank bulkhead, invisible till the tank was pulled and a bulkhead removed. The forward end of the stringer broke lose from the hull. Finding that started the response. Discovered later that most of the tabbing was loosened. I tried to fix the forward end without pulling the tanks and fully inspecting. Didn't work. Second time pulled everything and cut holes in the deck to inspect. Found some rot in bulkheads, the broken stringer and spent a lot of thinking/consulting time(thank you Blue Heron and others) figuring out why all this happened. Replaced bulkheads, etc and now I hope she is better than new.

Have someone who knows what to look for check the hull for stress cracks up and down that stringer, look at tabbing, access the other ends of the stringer and look for damage.
Sometimes its hard to see.

thanks c davis and wildman. Spent most of day cleaning and inspecting like You said. Had a friend come over and look also.

The stringer was cut by the person helping me over 18 years ago. We are both now 40 lol. He cut it to have more room for the vent hose and Fuel Fill.

So it cracked all the way down to attachment to stringer to hull. Trying to post pics now. Found and old budweiser can in forward hull under fish box. Neither of us drink.

Oh, how our sins catch up with us, even 18 years later.

Look really close at the tabbing near the crack, make sure its not loose. Mine was loose over a very big area and did not look it until I found a little piece loose, pulled on it and several feet popped off. Go to the other ends of the stringer or where it goes under the next bulkhead and look real close for tabbing coming loose
