Need Bennett Tabs 12v hydraulic unit
Hi,
After lusting after SeaCrafts for many years, I've just brought home a "new-to-me" used 1979 20' Seacraft MA and am trying to get her sorted out. I've discovered I have a bad Bennett motor/pump/resevoir unit after following the troubleshooting procedures from Bennett. My budget has been blown with the boat purchase, so I'm looking for a reasonable deal on a working unit if anyone has one lying around not being used. Where is the best deal on new if I have to go that route? Any advice or help is appreciated!! |
Did you call bennett already? I think they will replace yours for a flat $179 or something like that.

I spoke to Bennett to get the troubleshooting procedure for the hydraulic unit. They did not mention any special pricing from them should it prove to be bad, but I will certainly check if I have to go with new......thanks!!

Bigshrimpin, I did just check with Bennett and they said they haven't done that exchange program (with rebuilt units, apparently) for a couple years. Customers are now referred to their retail distributers.

Bushwacker, I didn't have the connector......mine were all butt-spliced. Bennet had me cut the wires, connect the ground, and then wire three colors directly to the same battery that the ground was connected to. I could hear the solenoid energize but the motor wouldn't run. Change one color of the three connected wires, and the other solenoid would energize. Motor still not run. Bennett was convinced it is the motor with that method, apparently.

Sounds like it's the motor alright! Was just thinking you might have had same problem I did, but previous owner must have already gone through that! One wire is ground, 1 each for left and rt. solenoid power, and one for motor power. Don't know where you're located, but I've often seen those pumps at marine salvage places and flea markets, so worth checking out if any near you!

Yep. I'm hoping to find one locally. I went to a nautical flea market yesterday, but no luck. A member in NJ will sell me one if I cannot get one that's a bit closer.
