85 23' sea craft scupper drain questions

I am looking at a 1985 sea craft that is for sale. The transom has been redone and now it has a 300 HPDI mounted on a bracket. But the scuppers drain into the bilge area. Is this normal for these boats and how could it be changed to drain out the transom as most boats do.

With a 300 on a bracket the standard sole height is probably right at or below the waterline, at least at the transom it is.

they are drains, not scuppers ;)

That's a very bad set up in my opinion, you should have a way to drain the cockpit even if it means check valves of some sort. Loss of ability to self bail is a huge compromise in the seaworthiness of the boat.

I have this issue as well. Right now the deck drains into the bilge and it drives me crazy. I have two bilge pumps that keep things dry down there, but knowing its not set up the way i want it is what stinks... I was thinking of putting some of those flapper type scuppers right next to/under my bracket right above the waterline. i could them run hoses from my deck drains to these flapper scuppers...maybe you could try this?

Seacrafts do not drain into the bilge. Thye are self bailing but a poor design. Either you have a modified seacraft or you own something other then a seacraft.

Sorry I wasnt as clear as I should have been...i have a 1983 modified 23 with a bracket...are the flapper scuppers basically a form of what you called a "check valve?" If so, what do you think of my idea? Better than draining into bilge im thinking...
