fuel tank size

is 80 gallons too big for a 20' seacraft with 05 150 evinrude?

that depends on how far you plan on going! :)

factory was 40 with a 70 option i beleive, so 10 more would put you at an extra 80lbs full.

i run an old 200 mercury carbed (thirsty) and have only 40 gallon tank, i fish all day no problem.

If you have a bigger tank you don't always have to fill it uo but if you have a smaller tank you can't put more than what it holds

Bigger is better

on my 89 20 SF i pulled a 70 gallon tank and replaced it with a 50 gallon tank. Moved the tank about 16 - 18 inches forward for self bailing. I'm going to be running a 115 2 stroke so i dont think fuel will be a problem.

I'd say it depends on the application, how much you use the boat, and how far you usually fish. I wouldn't want an 80 gallon tank on a boat that has a 140 4 stroke that i only use once every 2 weeks. That just means ill have fuel sitting all the time....not good.

If you fish every day, have to run 20 miles to fish, and that 150 is a thirsty engine..........80 is not too much.

Big question being the '05 Evinrude an Etec or carbed motor - if carbed that would provide 160 mile range which is alot for a 20' boat - on the other hand if its DFI you would be close to going from Fla to Mexico.

I have a 48 and have room in front of it for my 2 batteries - handy

The first 150 E-Tec's were model year 2007, although they came out in '06. Being an Evinrude, it's probably a Ficht . . . all Johnson's were carbed motors. I'd figure at least 3-4 mpg for a DI motor like the Ficht. Would be over 4 mpg for an E-Tec.

Still I have only made one trip that required 100 mi range round trip, and ya I would have liked a couple 5's under the console

I remember everybody complaining about no 150

I pulled the 45 gallon tank and put in a 20 to match the four stroke 100. It has 1/4" fuel hose. It is under the console, and the trim is great. I estimate that range is better than 100 miles. And a 5 gallon can should be good for 25 more. But everyone else gets there faster if it is dead flat out.
