Single 1994 Johnson 175 on a 23' Tsunami

Will it (eventually) plane...and how fast might it cruise.
Two anglers, 70 gallons fuel.

My previous Tsunamis w/single Johnson 2thirsty5s (Cabo and Yucatan Mexico) cruised 30 Kts at 3500rpm. They had full towers as well. Therefore the question about anyone's experience with 175 hp.

Thanks!

Good question......yeh, should plane but less power than most would want.

Engine will work harder too - likely near full throttle to keep up on plane.

Thanks..my thoughts too.

Do a quick search as I think this was just brought up recently since there's a Tsunami/Sceptre for sale here in MA with a 175. I don't remember for sure but either the seller posted performance numbers or the new owner did if it in fact sold.

Don't think its really enough, running an OMC 175 damn near wide open all day will send you too the poor house

175 is fine for a 23 . . . I ran side by side the hermit today in my 23cc. 40.4mph GPS. When you add a lot of people/weight boat can still do 36/37.

OMC 60 degree is a Larger displacement motor that my merc . . . and eggs is right it will put you in the poor house if you like speed.

Agreed that you will be fine. It will give you the same performance as the 235hp. The 235hp was a crossflow rated at the crank. In 1986 began using the prop hp and the 235hp got down graded to 175hp once the 2.7 liter looper came out at 225/200hp.

It will be a bit of a pig - mark my word..........

ran 4 200+ pound people, full fuel, and ice. The 175 chugged right along 22- 25mph cruise . . . 36 top end. It did strain a little in the swell at 3200 - 3500rpm. Above and below that rpm range was fine. Burned a LOT more fuel than running solo. boat still planes at 11mph.
