20 SF cc deck drainage?
 

Hey there SeaCraft community! My father has given me his old 1974 20 SF cc Seacraft, with a mercruiser 140 I/O with about 200 pounds of leaves and sticks inside of it. Ive done all the basics to get this puppy in the water, and boy does she go nicely. I have her at a slip now, and theres something strange that maybe you guys can fill me in on. Ive noticed there is no way for water to drain from the deck? The rear hull plugs are actually just bellow the water line with no-one standing in the boat. It will drain however when up on plane if I pull the plugs out. But leaving it at the dock, should I have the hull plugs out? It sketches me out to do something like that. Some water will find its way into the bilge for the bilge pump to pump out, but it doesn't get down there very fast. Every time it rains Im forced to check on the boat. Maybe im doing something completely wrong here. Please help!

I dont know much about theese boats mine ans out iard the drains are just out of the water at rest Ill bet you e got some extra weight in the boat maye some wet foam. Or maybe its a new larger motor our dad msy out in heavier then the original.

Welcome, if you do so searches on drain plugs you will find all sorts of information.

The best thing right now is to have a good bilge pump and a strong battery.

A temporary solution might be to install a flow check ball on the back of each drain.

The I/0 on the 20 is a pretty little skiff, mine had a small block in it and it is a good amount of weight. Your scuppers wouldn't drain like a 300-400 lb outboard boat but they shouldn't be underwater at rest. I think something may be waterlogged also. If the drain tubes are leaking they will drain through the stringer and through the wood engine bed sistered to the stringer, that's tied to the transom. If something not sealed up water can migrate in a few areas.

i drilled a few 1/2 in holes in the back corners and it slowly will drain into the bildge. when i don't need em i have plugs i put in. those floor plugs can only work when your under way. make sure your automatic bildge is working if you have the boat in the water alol the time.
