Possibly Moving to the Middle Keys Area
 

So this morning I got some pretty good news about a job oportunity in the Islamorada area. I have always been a fan of the area and try to make the trip down from Miami as much as possible during the summer months to relax and hang out. But the thought of actually spending all my time there has never crossed my mind until now. What can a single 28 year old guy expect from living full time in this area ? I mean i have no clue what its like as full time resident, this move is more for financial reasons so its not like I planned on living there and know what kind of life style to expect.

I have a buddy that moved to key largo a year ago he says it takes some getting used to
More laid back less to do or what he says different to do
But he is single and kids are both 30+

Are you renting buying? taking the boat?

Make sure you have a community dock or better yet a dock in the back yard
Go to founders park with a drivers license that has your Islamorada address and get the Park Pass it save you $25 for the ramp and you can use the park also.

I look forward to someday making the move to my place down there

If you move there I bet there will be plenty of us that will come and stay with you for atleast a week at a time to help you adjust :)

Well...well....congratulations!! 1. Check out Friday night's happy hour at Wahoos, a lot of locals show up to meet and drink who might give you some information on what to do and some organizations to get involved with. 2. stay away from the Trading Post unless you use it like a convience store....way too expensive 3. ditto on Founders park 4. I'm thinking a SeaCraft owners discount at the Sands is in order (hummm....a gathering location??) :) :) Good luck!

LoL thanks Don as soon as I get settled in I will check out all those place. And we can deff work something out for a seacraft gathering, the resort has a small ramp and dock space for 6 boats.

its on the ocean side just south of the tiki bar. I wont be doen there until saturday so well see how it goes with the storm.

Good luck to you in the new job. My cousin and his wife moved to Marathon from Mass. about 12 years ago and he always told me you need a really stable, well-paying job to live in the Keys. Sounds like that's what you've got, so you should be fine. He's about 38 now and has 1 child who hasn't entered the school system yet. Sounds like you're not there yet, but he said the schools have him a little concerned, but everything else he's pretty comfortable with. He got himself involved in the community early on, city boards and councilor positions, etc., so that helped his transition to becoming "local". Me, the wife and kids typically visit him once a year and are consistently in awe of the beauty of the place overall (Overseas Hwy is too commercialized along that stretch) and his ability to pull of a comfortable living there.
